According to HT sister publication Live, a committee of experts assigned by the Delhi government has recommended that parents of a Covid-19 positive child undergoing treatment in a hospital be permitted to enter the coronavirus ward amid concerns about a possible third wave of infections Hindustan.

However, the committee has stated that parents will only be permitted to enter the ward if they are fully equipped with personal protective equipment (PPE). “Parents would only be permitted onto the ward if their child was weeping uncontrollably and it became difficult to manage them without their parents. 

A separate centre for parents to stay would be established within hospitals,” a Delhi government official was cited as saying by Live Hindustan.

In addition, the panel believes that health staff should be taught to care for children in intensive care units (ICU). 

It also recommends establishing paediatric ICUs and securing more than 10,000 ICU beds in preparation for a possible third wave of Covid-19.
