In northern Kashmir’s Baramulla town, local people and officials who served close by General Bipin Rawat reviewed affectionate recollections of his residency as the General Officer in Command (GoC) of the division very nearly 10 years prior.

Both the officials kept in contact until the lamentable demise of the CDS on Wednesday.

Nisar Ahmad, a columnist from Binner town in Baramulla, had family relations with General Rawat. “I knew his family. His dad, a senior armed force official in Baramulla, has known my dad since the 1980s. 

General Rawat had gone to my wedding in 2005 when he was area commandant and posted in Sopore,” said Nisar, adding that he wanted to meet him one week from now in New Delhi. “As far as I might be concerned, he was a family companion. I will miss him.”

Another youthful cop from Baramulla, Sheik Adil, shared two or three photographs he had taken with the CDS. “In the dying of General Bipin Rawat, the nation has lost an incredible innovator in uniform.
