Kalicharan Maharaj was arrested for making disparaging remarks about Mahatma Gandhi

Kalicharan Maharaj, a religious leader from Madhya Pradesh’s Khajuraho, was arrested on Thursday, days after making a provocative speech against Mahatma Gandhi in Raipur, according to news agency ANI.

Kalicharan Maharaj praised Nathuram Godse for assassinating Mahatma Gandhi on December 26 and suggested electing a Hindu leader to lead the government to protect the religion.

“Kalicharan Maharaj was staying in a rented room near Bageshwar Dham, Madhya Pradesh, about 25 kilometers from Khajuraho. Raipur Police apprehended him at 4 a.m. today. The police team will arrive in Raipur with the accused by late evening,” Raipur Superintendent of Police Prashant Agarwal told ANI.

In Raipur’s Tikrapara Police Station, a case has been filed against him.

He also used an abusive word against Gandhi while giving Raipur’s Dharma Sansad speech.

“What is our primary responsibility – to save religion?” Regardless of which party (he/she) belongs to, we should elect a staunch Hindu king (leader) in the government…” According to the religious leader.

They had captured in 1947 right in front of our eyes (referring to partition)… They had previously taken control of Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan. In Chhattisgarh, he was roundly chastised by the ruling Congress government. The use of such words against Mahatma Gandhi, according to Sushil Anand Shukla, the state Congress communication wing head, is highly objectionable.

On December 26, Congress leader Pramod Dubey filed a complaint against Kalicharan Maharaj, and the state police filed a first information report (FIR) against him.

This isn’t the first time Kalicharan has made a controversial statement.

He made derogatory remarks about Christians and Muslims at an event in Pune on December 19, prompting the police to file a complaint against him and five others.
