Rukmini Maitra claims that being compared to Kangana Ranaut makes her feel “honoured.”

On October 19, Kangana Ranaut said that she had signed on for her upcoming movie project, a biography in which she will play Nati Binodini, a renowned Bengali theatre actress from the nineteenth century. Discussions on potential analogies between Kangana Ranaut and Bengali actress Rukmini Maitri, who will also be portraying Nati Binodini in her upcoming movie next year, have erupted in response to the announcement.

In response to the Wednesday announcement, Rukmini told Hindustan Times in an interview that she was happy to learn about it. Being Bengali herself, she thinks it’s great that a prominent Bengali is being acknowledged and given the credit she deserves.

On September 5, 2022, Rukmini shared her first image from the Nati Binodini biopic. The movie, whose working title is Binodiini-Ekti Natir Upakhyan, will hit theatres next year and is directed by Ram Kamal Mukherjee. She expressed pride that the nation is recognising a Bengali lady who carved out a space for herself in theatre and filmmaking and opened the path for other women while discussing the movie.
