On Saturday night, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will open the “Atal Bridge” over the Sabarmati River in the city of Ahmedabad in the state of Gujarat. The bridge is only for pedestrians. He is spending two days in his home state. Later, he went to the bridge on the spur of the moment.
The Prime Minister’s Office released a few pictures of the bridge that Modi opened earlier (PMO).

A news release says that the bridge will connect the future arts and culture centre on the eastern end of the riverfront to the flower garden on the western end. In the middle, it is about 300 metres long and 14 metres wide.
Modi has shown pictures of the bridge in the past and said it was beautiful.
The pedestrian overpass was built by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.
A press release says that the bridge is built so that it can be reached from both the lower riverfront walks and the higher riverfront promenades.
