The Lausanne Diamond League was won on Friday by Neeraj Chopra. He did so by making a throw of 89.08 metres on his first try. He was the first Indian to win a Diamond League event.
The Olympic gold medalist’s second throw, which went 85.18 metres, wasn’t as far as his first throw, which went 86 metres. Chopra threw a foul after missing his first three attempts.
On his last try, he was able to throw 80.04 metres.
Chopra came in second place at the Stockholm Diamond League earlier this year after throwing 89.94 metres, which was her personal best.
Thanks to his performance on Friday, he has now qualified for the 2023 World Championships, which have a qualifying mark of 85.20m, as well as the Diamond League final on September 7-8 in Zurich, Switzerland.
Chopra is in fourth place in the Diamond League points table with seven points. At the end of the Diamond League, only the top six teams with the most points move on to the championship game.
