On Monday, PM Narendra Modi will visit Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, where he will lay the foundation for hydropower projects worth over 11,000 crores. One of them is the Renukaji Dam project, which has been in the works for nearly three decades.

The completion of the 40-megawatt hydropower project, according to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), was only possible thanks to the combined efforts of six states—Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and Delhi—at the central government’s request.

The 7,000-crore Renukaji Dam will maximize the Himalayan region’s hydropower potential, benefiting cities far away as Delhi, which will receive a water supply of around 500 million cubic meters per year.

Prime Minister Modi will also put the foundation stone for the Luhri Stage 1 Hydro Power Project, a 210-megawatt dam estimated to cost over 1,800 crores and generate over 750 million units of electricity per year. According to the PMO, the modern and dependable grid support will also benefit the region’s neighboring states.

On Monday, the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation for the Dhaulasidh Hydro Power Project in the Hamirpur district, which will be the first of its kind in the state.

An official press release states, “The 66 MW project will be built at the cost of over 680 crores.” “It will result in the annual generation of more than 300 million units of electricity.”

PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone for the Sawra-Kuddu Hydropower Project. “The 111 MW Project was built at the cost of around 2080 crore,” according to the press release. “It will result in the generation of over 380 million units of electricity per year, generating over 120 crores in revenue for the state.”

Finally, Prime Minister Modi will preside over the Himachal Pradesh Global Investors’ Meet’s second ground-breaking ceremony on Monday. According to the PMO, the meeting is expected to boost investment in the region by kicking off projects worth around 28,000 crores.
