BJP Northeast Scorecard: PM: “Red Card To Unrest, Corruption In 8 Years”

The prime minister addressed the crowd in a football stadium and made allusions to the game to convey his point.

Shillong: Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that all obstacles in northeast India, such as underdevelopment, corruption, turmoil, and political favouritism, have received the “red card” by his administration. He was in Shillong for the Northeastern Council’s golden jubilee celebration.
The prime minister addressed the crowd in a football stadium and made allusions to the game to convey his point.

“Someone receives a red card and is kicked out of the game when they play against the spirit of sportsmanship in football. In the Northeast, we have similarly dismissed all obstacles like underdevelopment, corruption, political favouritism, and turmoil during the past eight years “he stated.

The prime minister declared that his administration is concentrating on the growth of sports in the northeast, where it has already begun construction on the nation’s first national sports university and 90 significant sports projects.

“It is a coincidence that I am in Shillong, holding a rally in a football field surrounded by football lovers, on the day the world cup final of football is being played. While we are participating in a development competition here, a football match is taking place there (in Qatar) “he stated.

He said, “Today the world cup is in Qatar, and we are supporting other teams, but let me guarantee you that the day is not far off when we will host such international athletic events, our tricolour will fly high, and we will support our own team.

The PM claimed credit for enhancing regional air connections as well. “Before 2014, just 900 flights a week were accessible in the northeast; currently, it’s up to 1,900 flights,” he said, noting that Krishi Udan Yojana is assisting the northeast’s farmers by improving air connectivity.

The Krishi Udan Yojana programme, which was introduced in August 2020, seeks to help farmers transport their agricultural products on both domestic and foreign routes in order to increase the value realisation of those items.

Regarding telecom connectivity, the PM stated that the Northeast will receive 6,000 mobile towers, with a cost of 5,000 crore from the Center.

The PM mentioned several development initiatives, including the 150 planned Eklavya model schools and initiatives specifically targeted at the northeast, such the Parbat Mala scheme and the PM-DevINE project. Additionally, he disparaged previous Center-based administrations.

He said, “The previous governments at the Center had a ‘divide’ northeast approach, and we have a ‘divine’ approach for the region.” He added that his government is attempting to ensure peace by addressing conflicts in the area.

“For us, the northeastern border regions are not the final mile but rather our key support structures. We are working on the Vibrant Border Village Project to develop the border settlements. The previous administration formerly believed that if we build up the border region, the adversary nation will profit, but we are going to make the border regions our strongest bastions. To improve communication, roads, and other infrastructure to border villages, “he added

The PM also mentioned his trip to the Vatican the previous year.

“I visited Vatican City the previous year and met the Pope. The meeting we had after I invited him to India had a significant influence on me. We talked about how crucial human unity is to the survival of the species. The tribal population immensely benefits from our efforts to advance the politics of peace and development “Mr. Modi stated.

Prior to that, PM Modi took part in the North East Council’s (NEC) golden jubilee celebration and participated in a public ceremony in Shillong where he lay the cornerstone for a number of projects.

The Golden Jubilee celebration of the NEC, a regional planning organisation established in 1972 to carry out planning and developmental initiatives of eight northeastern states, also included Chief Ministers and Governors of eight northeastern states, along with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The Prime Minister officially opened and laid the cornerstone for several projects totaling more than 2,450 crore during a public event in Shillong.

From Shillong, the Prime Minister will travel to Agartala, Tripura, where he would address a crowd of people at Swami Vivekananda Ground on Sunday, launch several projects, and lay the cornerstone for a few other projects totaling more than 4,350 crore.
