This decision of nitish kumar wasn’t a surprise because the coalition in the northern state had been getting tense for a few days before it was made.
Mr. Nitish Kumar sent his resignation letter to the governor of the state on Tuesday evening. Several news sources say that he may now join forces with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) party, which was his ally before.
So far, Mr. Nitish Kumar hasn’t said anything official about this. People think that Mr. Kumar, who is the leader of the Janata Dal United, is one of the most powerful politicians in Bihar, a politically important state with a lot of people (JDU).
Even though the party has been one of the BJP’s partners for a long time, there have been times when it has cut ties with the BJP. Relations started to get worse again when leaders of the JDU said that the BJP was trying to get rid of their party.
Mr. Kumar was a federal minister in the cabinet of the BJP government, which was led by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, from 1999 to 2004. But in 2013, he told the BJP that he didn’t agree with their decision to run Mr. Modi for prime minister and cut ties with the party.
When asked about it at the time, he said that Mr. Modi’s lack of secular credentials made him feel uncomfortable.
In 2015, he won an election for a state office in Bihar and right away formed a coalition government with Laloo Prasad Yadav of the RJD, who was his political enemy.
But in 2017, he broke off the relationship and quit as chief minister, saying that he didn’t like how corruption investigations were being done against the leaders of the RJD.
In 2015, he beat the BJP in a very close election. The next day, he found a new partner in the BJP and took the oath of office again the next day.
Even though the JDU and BJP worked together and won the election in 2020, they did not stay in power for the full five years.
