On Tuesday, Rishi Sunak made history by becoming the first British prime minister of Indian descent. With this, bitter rivals Pakistan and India joined the historical event, but neither of them had any involvement.
Days after winning the historic election for Conservative Party leader, the 42-year-old former investment banker and politician assumed office as the UK’s first Hindu prime minister. In 210 years, he is the country’s youngest prime minister.
Although Sunak’s grandparents were born in Gujranwala, which is now in modern-day Pakistan, they were British Indian natives. Consequently, in an unusual sense, the PTI news agency reports that the new British leader is both an Indian and a Pakistani.
