Azharuddin discusses KL Rahul’s hitting issues

KL According to former India captain Mohammed Azharuddin, Rahul has to be much more consistent and work on his technical issues with national team trainers.
The 57-year-old Azhar, a cricket fan favourite for to his deft wrist work, is a little bummed that a player of Rahul’s talent isn’t reaching his full potential.

“Consistency, in KL Rahul’s situation, is what I believe to be the issue. However, I believe that there are coaches who can help him improve. He is a good player, in my opinion, but his consistency is lacking “said Azharuddin.

Rahul was bowled round the legs for 39 in the first One-Day International against Sri Lanka on Tuesday in Guwahati, continuing a streak of bad performances since his return to international play.

“Rahul, in my opinion, is gaining ground in a variety of ways. First and foremost, it’s not his nice balls that are ejecting him. Problems are being caused by bad shot selection in the first place, “Azhar, who thinks all senior players have to make time to play domestic cricket, stated.

The senior duo, which included captain Rohit Sharma and superstar Virat Kohli, are expected to be crucial contributors at the 50-over World Cup at the end of the year, according to Azharuddin.

“According to the records, both are excellent athletes who play with style. They have also had success in the past. In the World Cup, I do think Kohli and Rohit will perform ok. They have typically been fairly consistent in ODI format.”

Azharuddin has some experience with leaders because he led the Indian team for nearly ten years, from 1990 to 1999, during two different phases of his leadership. He cites Hardik Pandya, the new T20 captain, as an example of one such player.

“Hardik has displayed strong leadership qualities and appears to be able to move the team forward. But because he had been gone for so long, he had take care to protect his back.

“India will require the all-rounder Hardik, so we can’t risk him being hurt. Hardik has a young crew, and that is the direction to go in. It will take good coordination for the upcoming T20 series to create a winning combination.”

Azhar would like that his former teammate and chairman of selectors Chetan Sharma clarify some picks so that there is no confusion because the Indian selectors have received a lot of criticism lately.

He was blunt: “Chetan is definitely expected to have at least one or two press conferences and should outline the strategy for the current Indian team.”

He has now served as the president of the Hyderabad Cricket Association for more than a year, but he has had some disagreements over how to run the organisation with former Indian players like Arshad Ayub and Shivlal Yadav.

“So far, it’s been good. We are working to restore the Hyderabad Cricket Association’s damaged reputation. The stadium arena and the changing rooms have both undergone extensive renovations.

“It was all in a terrible state when I took control. In three months, we’ll host our second international game (against New Zealand). We are overjoyed that the BCCI has acknowledged our efforts and has assigned us matches “said Azharuddin.
