On Friday, Divya Kakran of India beat Tiger Lily Cocker Lemalie of Tonga to win the bronze medal in wrestling at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham.
Divya Kakran was able to win the match she was in because she was able to pin her opponent, Cocker Lemalie.
Divya Kakran was knocked out of the competition by Blessing Oborududu of Nigeria in the quarterfinals. Oborududu beat Kakran 0-11, which was a humiliating loss for Kakran. In the end, this put her in second place.
Oborududu won the match because she was the best in terms of technique, even though the Indian didn’t score any points during the match. In the first session, she got five technical points, and in the second, she got six more.
But she made the most of her chance in the repechage to compete against Blandine Nyeh Ngiri of Cameroon. As a direct result of her performance, India’s overall medal count in Birmingham went up.
Divya Kakran beat Ngiri in the qualifying match for the bronze medal by getting four technical points that she held on to until the end of the match, when she fell to the mat and claimed victory. The fight was over in a little over a minute.
With her performance in Birmingham on Friday, she added the bronze medal she won at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast to her collection.
With his win over Canadian wrestler Lachlan McNeil earlier in the day, Bajrang Punia was able to keep his title as the Commonwealth Games champion.
At the 2018 Gold Coast tournament, the winner of the men’s 65 kg division won the championship event by more points, and she ended another successful season with a 9-2 score in the final match.
In the women’s 62 kilogrammes division, India’s Sakshi Malik won the gold medal by falling Canada’s Ana Godinez Gonzalez. Canada was where Ana Godinez Gonzalez came from. The Rohtak wrestler who won the match added a silver medal from the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014 and a bronze medal from the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast in 2018 to his collection.
The Indian wrestling team has always won medals at the CWG, and they did not disappoint the millions of Indians who live in England by not bringing home a medal from the most recent friendly games.
Early on in the CWG 2022, the weightlifting team won a medal, and the boxing and wrestling teams followed suit, adding to the country’s total in front of a large Indian population in the West Midlands.
