T20 World Cup 2022 Highlights: Sri Lanka defeats the Netherlands by 16 runs

Binura makes NED 105/6 after 16 overs. The batsman pays the price for playing a sweep shot when Fernando castles Edwards, but Fernando’s full delivery clattered the stumps. Fernando strikes to stop Netherlands just as they were starting to build pace. As Netherlands requires 58 runs in 24 balls, Dhananjaya’s straight hit from long on has decisively put Sri Lanka in control of the situation.

NED 96/4 at the end of 14 overs: Sri Lanka scored 102 runs in their final 10 overs, while the Netherlands requires 81 runs in 42 balls. On a field with turn and bounce, Scott Edwards and Max ODowd are attempting to target the spinners, but it is difficult. With Netherlands averaging about 7 runs per over, the needed rate has increased to almost 11 runs per over.

Maheesh Theekshana strikes and gives Sri Lanka a crucial breakthrough at NED 77/4 after 12 overs. As Tom Cooper’s tournament performance continues to deteriorate, he commits an ambitious sweep mistakenly believing it to be a flicker that skidded away from the batsman. In the room, Max ODowd is joined by Scott Edwards.

NED 63/3 after 10 overs: Tom Cooper and Max ODowd are working on rebuilding the team, but they still need some big overs because the run rate is increasing. Wanindu Hasaranga and Dasin Shanaka have joined the attack and are working together to execute it. Important play as Sri Lanka tries to control the scoring and pick up wickets, while Netherlands tries to change the momentum in their favour.

After eight overs, NED is 54/3; Hasaranga takes a clean caught and bowled to give Sri Lanka the lead. Colin Ackermann is out for a first-ball duck. With fielders in the circle and on the attack, Sri Lanka has increased their run rate from the current 6.4 rpo to nine rpo as wickets have fallen. Sri Lanka thinks it may extend its stay in Australia as the Netherlands is under pressure.

6 overs later, SL is 40/2: The in-form Bas de Leede falls, and the Sri Lankans are overjoyed. This huge wicket and Lahiru Kumara have given Sri Lanka additional control in the PowerPlay. Bas de Leede did nothing more than open his bat face and attempt to run down a back of length delivery, which allowed Kusal Mendis to take an easy catch. Sri Lanka is playing well right now.

SL 27/1 after 4 overs: Sri Lanka scores, and the breakthrough comes from Maheesh Theekshana during the PowerPlay. The opener wasn’t feeling very at ease in the middle as he ended Vikramjit Singh’s time at the crease. tries a crazy slog sweep but only manages to hit Shanaka in the middle. In the meantime, Binura Fernando is bowling quickly as Sri Lanka attacks.

After two overs, NED is 14/0: Max ODowd and Vikramjit Singh start the Netherlands’ pursuit of 163, and spinner Dhananjaya de Silva got Sri Lanka going. Vikramjit has been tormented by Lahiru Kumara’s pace and bounce from the other end as the left-hander is beaten outside the off-stump. He doesn’t appear to be at ease, and the opening has become uneasy due to Lahiru’s pace. Excellent effort from Sri Lanka.
