British colonial administrators, businessmen, and sailors are thought to have brought cricket to India in the 18th century. In what was then the British East India Company town of Calcutta, the first game ever documented in India was played in 1721. (now Kolkata). British sailors and the local squad competed in the game. Also established in 1792 was the Calcutta Cricket Club, the first cricket team in India. The Indian cricket team was founded in 1911 as the sport progressively gained popularity in India throughout the course of the 19th century. In 1932, the group faced off in its inaugural Test match against England.
The Indian national cricket team’s first captain was C. K. Nayudu. In the team’s inaugural Test match, against England, in 1932, he served as captain. One of the best cricket players in India’s early years was Nayudu, a right-handed batsman and right-arm fast-medium bowler. He participated in India’s first test match against England on June 25, 1932. He was a member of the Indian cricket squad in the 1920s and 1930s and is regarded as a pioneer of Indian cricket.
