The most recent information on the shocking murder of Shraddha has shown that the accused, Aftab Amin Poonawala, attempted to deceive Delhi and Mumbai Police during the opening stages of the inquiry. In an effort to hide Shraddha’s murder, Aftab tried to destroy all physical evidence. However, he managed to leave digital data, which the police utilised to establish the facts of the case and expose Aftab’s fabrications.
Aftab Amin first told the Delhi Police during their initial inquiry into the crime that Shraddha had left his apartment on May 22 following an altercation between the two. He said at the time that Shraddha only took her phone when she left, leaving all of her other possessions at his apartment. He also asserted that the two haven’t spoken since, according to police sources quoted by ANI.
However, the cops discovered the truth when looking through Aftab and Shraddha’s telephone logs and locating them.
The bank statements of both Shraddha and Aftab were retrieved by the police, and they revealed a transaction on May 26 of Rs 54,000 from Shraddha’s net banking account app to Aftab’s account. The aforementioned transaction exposed Aftab’s fabrications, according to which he had earlier claimed that he had not spoken to Shraddha since May 22 and that she was no longer approachable.
Police questioned Aftab about how, if Shraddha stole her phone while leaving, the location of the May 26 bank transaction could be connected to his apartment when it turned out to be near the Mehrauli police station. Aftab had no response to this inquiry, and after more prodding from the authorities, he finally admitted to the crime.
In order to “prevent questions about her well-being and maintain her alive in the eyes of her family and friends,” the accused Aftab informed the police that he kept Shraddha’s Instagram account updated for a month (until June) after murdering her.
A week before to the murder, Aftab had already decided to kill her.
Aftab Amin Poonawalla informed the authorities about his preparations to kill Shraddha more than a week prior to the crime, when he killed his Hindu live-in lover and dismembered her body into 35 parts.
“I had decided to kill Shraddha more than a week before she was killed on May 18, 2022. We argued even on that particular day. She started wailing out of the blue just as I was about to murder her. So I saved it for later,” Aftab said in a report by ANI, citing a Delhi Police source.
In the kitchen of the accused Aftab Amin Poonawalla’s apartment in Chhatarpur, Delhi, blood streaks were found. To identify whose blood the samples are, they have been submitted for testing. Police will likely contact the victim’s father for DNA testing, and Forensic Light Source (FLS) will match blood and bone samples with the found body pieces. A DNA test will next be performed.
‘Love Jihad’ perspective
The victim’s father, Vikas Madan Walkar, voiced concern that the case may have a “love jihad” component and called for the execution of the defendant.
“I suspected a love jihad angle,” he stated when speaking to ANI about the same. For Aftab, we want the death punishment. I have faith that the Delhi Police would conduct the investigation properly. Shraddha didn’t talk to me much since she was close to her uncle. I never communicated with Aftab. The initial complaint was made in Mumbai’s Vasai.
He went from slicing meat like a chef to chopping his roommate like a monster.
According to reports, the accused formerly held a chef position in a restaurant located in Mumbai. He learned how to slice meat into little pieces and store them in the refrigerator while undergoing the chef school. He had learned techniques on the job for keeping clean after cutting the meat. The authorities claim that Aftab’s prior experience as a chef enabled him to precisely carve Shraddha’s lifeless corpse into 35 pieces.
