As reported by Buckingham Palace, the state funeral for Queen Elizabeth II will take place at Westminster Abbey on Monday, September 19.
For four days prior to her funeral, the Queen will “Lie-in-State” at Westminster Hall so that mourners can pay their respects.
According to a lengthy statement released by the palace, the Queen’s body is currently resting in the Balmoral Castle ballroom.
The royal authorities called it “a scene of peaceful dignity.” On Sunday, the royal casket will be transported by car from the remote estate to Edinburgh’s Palace of Holyroodhouse, a distance of 290 kilometres (180 miles).
On Monday, the casket will be moved from the Palace of Holyroodhouse to St. Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh, where it will remain in repose until Tuesday.
The casket will then be flown to Buckingham Palace, where it will remain until Wednesday, when a public viewing begins at Westminster Hall.
