Islamic experts in Paktia province called on the Taliban to reopen females’ schools, local media reported. Scholars published a five-point resolution urging the Islamic Emirate to reopen the school for girls in grades 7-12.

“We, the religious clerics of Paktia, urge on the Islamic Emirate to help establish Islamic schools for girls. Islam supports girls’ education, but within an Islamic framework “a statement said.

The Taliban’s Ministry of Education said the Islamic Emirate is close to reopening the girls’ school. “The Minister (of Education) indicated the matter is close and a proper solution would be achieved soon,” said Aziz Ahmad Riyan, a ministry official, according to TOLOnews.

Due to the economic crises and limitations, women have been mostly excluded from the job since the Taliban administration took over Kabul in August last year. Earlier, scores of female students in Kabul came to the streets to demand the Taliban administration reverse its decision to restrict girls from schooling beyond sixth grade.

Protesters chanted “education is our absolute right” and demanded the reopening of schools for Afghan females in grades 7-12, according to Tolo News. Women and girls are also denied access to health care, HRW claims.

According to reports, abused women and girls have no way out. One of the key requests of the world community is allowing girls into schools. Because of concerns about the Taliban’s treatment of children and women, most governments have refused to publicly recognise them.
