Drishyam 2 did well at the box office on Saturday, bringing in 1.15 crores*. It’s a really encouraging indicator that the movie is once again earning in crores since it guarantees a strong run for a few more weeks. It shouldn’t surprise anyone because there have long been warning flags. However, it’s incredible that the movie is now potentially earning 240 crores or more when 210–215 crores looked like the best case scenario at one point (which would have been wonderful too).
A 10% increase on top of that is, after all, what is referred to as the “icing on the cake” when a movie surpasses expectations on such a high total. The picture has received positive reviews from audiences, and it is now a matter of waiting to see if the regular 8-week window for the OTT release will be preserved or if it will be extended longer. Since the Ajay Devgn starrer has an open run ahead of it, the digital premium should ideally only be applied after 10 weeks. Those two extra weeks might add at least 2-3 crores more to the box office haul.
Drishyam 2, starring Ajay Devgn, has already made 232.70 crores* at the box office as of today, bringing it that much closer to the 235 crore threshold. Expect at least 35 to 40 lakhs a day to pour in throughout the weekdays because there will be many theatres and performances of the movie in the days to come.
