Launch of the first premium electric vehicle “Made in India” with an 857 km range

The nation’s first luxury electric car, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580, went on sale today for INR 1.55 crore (ex-showroom). The third electric vehicle (EV) in the series was launched by the German automotive giant just days after the AMG version of the EQS 53 made its debut in the country. A first for Mercedes outside of Germany, local assembly of the EQS 580 enabled for incredibly low prices—even lower than those of the S Class premium vehicle. Mercedes-Benz has already started taking bookings for the EQS 580 at a cost of Rs. 25 lakh. It will face up against high-end EVs like the Porsche Taycan EV and the Audi e-tron GT in India.

The EQS 580, Mercedes’ 14th domestically made vehicle in India, is expected to have a significant impact on the company’s plan to have EV sales make up one-fourth of all sales within the next five years. Martin Schwenk, Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, said that India was the first country outside of Germany to manufacture the EQS 580 4MATIC. This special distinction supports Mercedes-Benz India’s strong commitment to its customers and its long-term vision for the development of the luxury EV market in this country.

The Mercedes EQS 580 was released last year, and the S Class, which most recently won the World Sedan of the Year award for best luxury sedan, is essentially the electric version of that vehicle. The EQS can claim to be the best luxury electric car in the world thanks to its anticipated performance capabilities, luxury, and zero-emission technology.

With a motor on each axle and a 107.8 kWh lithium-ion battery as standard equipment, the Mercedes EQS 580 has a four-motor system. Mercedes asserts that the EQS 580 will have a range of up to 857 kilometres on a single charge based on ARAI certification. It is now the longest-range EV in India, however its true range is probably shorter. It is also one of the most powerful EVs in India, with a maximum power of 523 bhp and a peak torque of 856 Nm. It takes somewhat longer than the AMG EQS 53’s 3.5 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (or from 0 to 0 mph).

The Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 has a 200 kW DC charging capacity, meaning that the EV can be charged for 300 km at a quick charging station in around 15 minutes.

The Mercedes EQS 580 offers much more than simply superior car features to support its high price. One of the key selling features of this car would be its opulent amenities. The massive 56-inch MBUX super screen, which just made its debut in India when Mercedes unveiled the EQS with AMG performance, is the biggest and most prominent of all. In essence, the driver display, the main infotainment system, and the passenger display are a sum of three smaller screens. The world’s largest in-car screen is currently installed in this vehicle. Additional highlights include the high-end Burmester sound system, massaging seats, and ambient lighting.
